I think it’s important to give feedback on the cities that I go to when
I’m on tour so that for future events you might like to visit these
cities on holiday and enjoy your surroundings in conjunction with my
event.
I’ll always tour Phoenix because it’s where I grew up and the
people are usually very friendly. The resorts are beautiful and
accommodating. The Phoenician is one of my favorites, the Sanctuary is
outstanding too, I threw Joe his 40th birthday party there. El Chorro
on Lincoln is an old school Arizona restaurant, which I like. Prime
Rib, sticky buns, amazing salads and tables under the stars. On the
weekends they offer live music and dancing be sure to call ahead for
reservations.
Another great dining experience is Zest off Indian School
Rd. in Phoenix. They have Short Ribs with a molasses glaze that is
incredible. Joe likes the Eggplant Cheesecake for an appetizer and
Meatloaf, which looks like a big meatball!
I toured Denver in August
and the people were great. My event was at The Brown Palace Hotel,
which is exquisite. Nothing like a haunted hotel that is busting at the
seams with character, it was a very special event in Denver with
touching readings and I will go back in 2009.
I had two memorable
events in Buffalo, NY. Yes, I had Buffalo Wings in the place that
created them and my husband and kids joined me there. I also took my
girls to Lily Dale a town where the residents are ALL Mediums. I know
very cool. I gave a Children’s Workshop there and some of the kids were
pretty good. I taught them how to automatic write and my girls stepped
in to help teach the kids too. Later we took our girls to Niagra Falls
and it was breathtaking. I’ll return to that area again in 2009.
My two
events in Chicago were sensational. I’m a big fan of Chicago. Our event
was at the Rosemont Westin and it was beautiful. My security guard Nino
was great such a kind man. After the event we dined at David Burke’s
Prime House and had a blast. For dessert they have “lollipop trees”
that consist of little balls of cheesecake dipped in various flavor
coatings. They have donut holes that you get to fill yourself with
fruit and crème fillings. Anyways in my opinion it’s well worth
visiting. I usually stay at the Chicago Ritz it has a very soothing
vibe to it.
Baltimore, Maryland was a first time experience for me I
had never been to Maryland. My manager Mark couldn’t get enough of the
crab cakes and I just thought the city was beautiful with its historic
buildings and architecture. I wish I’d had more time to explore but we
were off to Philadelphia for my event there. I find my events to be
interesting for many reasons but one of them is that a theme seems to
always form. For instance, Baltimore ended up being a “loss of child”
overtone because there were an unusual amount of parents who’d lost
their children in tragic ways.
Philly had a specific “loss of son” overtone and I didn’t just read the
mothers who’d lost sons I encouraged them to exchange phone numbers to
support one another. One mom had lost her son many years ago and
another had lost hers only months ago so the mom who was still so raw
with the loss could lean on the mother who had spent years trying to
understand her loss. Together they will bond and their sons will know
each other on the otherside because of it. I had a wonderful security
guard named Dwayne who showed us the town including a Philly Cheese
Steak at Geno’s and it is as good as people say. I like it with
Provolone instead of Cheese Wiz but you be the judge. We went to a
comedy club and tried to let go of some of the pain from the event that
night. It was a moving night full of ooohhhs and wows!
I love how my
audience gets to be a part of my world and I theirs. So, I will let you
know where in Ireland, Canada, Australia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. I’ll
be touring in 2009. Maybe I’ll see you there.
Misbehave,
Allison DuBois
